Nash tweaks groin, Puempel has concussion

Update: Nash will be out one week following an MRI. Puempel has been placed on IR with a concussion, so he will be out at least a week as well. Placing Puempel on IR gives the Rangers room for the Nicklas Jensen call up.

Original Post: More injury news for the Rangers, as their forward depth keeps getting gutted by injuries. They appear to have lost two more forwards to injuries, time tables TBD.

Matt Puempel left the game in the first with a concussion, after taking a rather vicious cross check to the chin by Brock Nelson. Puempel is in the standard concussion protocol

More importantly, Rick Nash tweaked his groin in the second and did not return. That’s a significant loss for the Rangers if it’s long term. More to come.

Puempel gets concussion thanks to vicious cross check by Nelson in the 1st period, No retribution by Rangers. Sends the message to the Islanders and the rest of the league, this guy’s are SOFT!!!. BLAST AWAY..

I agree, it is fun to watch altercations between the whistles. Unfortunately it translates in no way shape or form to sustained organizational success or health. I’m good with taking a 4 minute power play and moving on from an inadvertent stick to the face.

      • Chris A says:

That wasn’t inadvertent, that was straight from the Messier playbook of really dirty, sneaky plays.

Still, it’s not like the Isles were taking liberties all night. So, I’m with you, take the 4 minute double minor and turn the page.

The days of retribution are long gone from the elite teams in the NHL. That’s reserved for the real bush league teams, like last night’s fiasco in NJ.

I’m sure Nelson got a call from the Dept of Safety, lol. What a joke.

we do not have any grit to protect our assets Puempel gets concussed and we have no one to stick up for him the grit is down in florida

Breaking news: Having a goon on the roster prevents NOTHING. Rangers have been hurt in plenty of games when Tanner Glass has been in the lineup.

You want to get back at the other team, then drill their stars into the boards, then it will stop. Oh, and score on the PP.

    • Chris A says:

To be fair, the Rangers did everything but score on that double minor. If Mika was healthy and Pirri remembered where the goal was, the Rangers likely would have scored on both ends of that PP.

      • Richter1994 says:

oh yeah, they threw 10 pretty good shots on goal on that 4 minute PP. I was just saying in general how to hurt the other team that hurts your players.

me personally, I would drill one of their stars into the boards, legally, but that’s just me.

  4. Jerry says:

I think most everyone agrees that there is no place for a “goon” on a roster. But there IS a need for a player who will be a physical presence and answer in a legal physical manner when a player receives a cheap shot by an opponent. This team is constituted in AV’s image, soft. Vesey doesn’t practice because of a slash, Puempel out with an INTENTIONAL high stick to his jaw. What legal physical response took place? NONE. Ladies and gentlemen, team unity is built many ways. One way is sticking up for a teammate, I will tell you that from experience. Gorton who has Bruin blood in his veins can not be happy with what did NOT take place on the ice in Brooklyn.

  5. Jon says:

Nash got hurt because of that terrible ice at Barklays Center. Guys were falling left & right. I thought the NHL was going to help them fix the problem. They skate on that crap all the time. The Rangers weren’t used to it.
