The Rangers beat the Islanders by a score of 5-3 last night. There were some good things, there were some bad things. But I prefer to take the hot take approach, for poops and giggles. Let’s see how sizzling we can be.

  • The Rangers are on pace for 410 goals over a full 82 game season. Considering the forward depth, and assuming Alain Vigneault continues to make the proper personnel decisions, I think the Rangers can average 2.9 goals per game, so roughly 240 goals for the regular season.
  • The Rangers are on pace to allow 246 goals over a full 82 game season. Unless moves are made, I think that number is alarmingly close to accurate. Let’s come in at 2.75 goals allowed per game, so 225 goals allowed.
  • Henrik Lundqvist will flip over 6 nets this season. Guaranteed.

  • Dan Girardi and Marc Staal will wind up as third pairing defensemen before November ends. The problem is that they will be the third pairing together, which is arguably worse than separating them. Neither will have bounce back seasons.
    • The top pairing will be Ryan McDonagh-Adam Clendening before October ends.
    • Brady Skjei will be paired with Kevin Klein before November ends.
  • Dylan McIlrath will play a game for the Rangers in October.
  • Pavel Buchnevich will commit offensive zone turnovers often enough that people will begin to think he’s terrible and a bust and should be traded. None of this will be true to the rational eye.
  • Jimmy Vesey will hit a scoring drought long enough that people will begin to think he’s terrible and a bust and should be traded. None of this will be true to the rational eye.
  • Brady Skjei will hit a scoring drought long enough that people will begin to think he’s terrible and a bust and should be traded. None of this will be true to the rational eye.
  • Sensing a theme yet?
  • The powerplay will click at a cool 20% this season. The penalty kill will continue to struggle, and will be a bottom-ten unit.
  • Chris Kreider will injure 2 goalies this year, none of them will be Carey Price.
  • Montreal fans will blame Kreider for Price coming down with the flu.
