The below is a guest post written Dan McCurry, a long time reader of BSB (he actually was one of the winners in the Dylan McIlrath bobble-fist giveaway we did here a few years ago). Danny is a public middle school teacher in Brooklyn, teaching History, and is trying to get donations for his classroom through a nonprofit organization called Donors Choose. Most of his students and their families have a tough time making ends meet and through this project, he’s able to supply them with everything they need for the upcoming school year. All donations go towards supplies for his students.

Hello my fellow Rangers brethren! I’m Dan, 31 years old and I’ve been a Rangers fan for the last 22 years. I started playing hockey and falling in love with our beloved Blueshirts in 1994 when I was 9 years old, which as we all know, was a pretty magical year. I would love to go on about my Rangers fandom (like how my brothers and I have the ‘94 Stanley Cup video memorized word for word, you know you want to try one of Glenn Anderson’s mom’s famous salmon sandwiches!) but I’m actually here writing to ask all my Rangers fans for a little help.

I’ve been teaching in a public middle school in Brooklyn for the last eight years. My school is a Title One school, which means most of my students live below the poverty line and are given free lunch. With the school year approaching, I wanted to ask you guys if you would be willing to help my students out and donate to my classroom. I set up a project through a cool non-profit organization called Donor’s Choose, where people can place donations to my classroom that will help pay for basic supplies for my kids.

A lot of my kids and their families struggle with purchasing supplies for a new school year and every year I try to get donations to help them get on a level playing field so they’re not falling behind. A lot of the supplies I’m requesting are things many of us took for granted when we were all in school. I would like to supply all of my students with notebooks, folders and great classroom magazines to keep them up to date with current events.

My schedule is packed this year – I’m teaching Social Studies and Current Events to over 360 Middle Schoolers (6th, 7th, and 8th grade). I’m getting ready for a wild ride! (kinda like a 5 on 3 PP when your two defensemen on the ice are Girardi and Staal). If you are able, I’d greatly appreciate it if you could donate to my project a.k.a my classroom 🙂 Any donation would be awesome. Thank you everyone for even taking the time to read this and I wanted to thank Dave and BSB for letting me post this, it means a lot.

On behalf of myself and my students, thank you so much! Here’s to a great school year and an even better season! Let’s Go Rangers!!
