The Rangers have agreed to terms with RFA Mat Bodie, the first RFA domino to fall this summer. Bodie was coming off his second contract, another one year, two way deal, in which he made the NHL minimum and $80,000 in the AHL. It’s expected that he has something similar to that deal for next year, although the terms haven’t been released.

Bodie was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014. The 6’0″, 175 lb defenseman has put up seasons of 5-27-32 and 7-29-36 with the Hartford Wolf Pack. It is expected that Bodie will remain with the Pack as one of their top-four defensemen this year. He likely won’t see much NHL time, if any.

With the signing, the Rangers have 15 NHL contract spots remaining of the 50 contract max.

hopefully he is with the big team

Doubtful. Bodie is probably the fourth D in line to be an injury replacement. I currently have him behind Clendening, Summers, and Graves on the depth chart.

Maybe if the PP is struggling and a point man is needed, Bodie can sneak on to the Rangers roster, but I wouldn’t bet on it. He’s an AHL depth guy

I agree, he’s got very good puck skills, which could help our D’s inability to leave the zone. He’s been a very hard worker in Hartford, improving his abilities and play, and was rewarded with the captaincy. I think he’d be a good candidate for the third pairing if we moved one of our defensemen.

I agree, I would give him a chance on the third pair and give him PP2 time on the point as well.

Everyone’s talking about D with puck skills and first pass ability so why not Bodie?
