Kreider

This past Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a promo event for Bauer Hockey where they showed off some stuff made with a fabric that’s apparently scientifically proven to keep athletes cooler and drier. Like a good nerd blogger I don’t actually play the game myself, but for all you beer league folks out there Bauer’s the way to go I guess. While I was there I had the opportunity to speak briefly with Chris Kreider; the transcript of our conversation can be found below.

PK: Obviously the season didn’t end the way a lot of us hoped for it to end – what’s your mindset heading into the offseason ad preparing for next season?

CK: It can kind of be a blessing in disguise, lot of time off, more than we’re used to, so we’ve got opportunity for guys to get healthy and to work on some stuff they need to work on.

PK: A lot of us have seen the video of you jumping out of the pool – what’s your offseason training regimen like?

CK: I’m out at Bodytuning with Ben Prentiss out in Stamford, a bunch of other pro guys there too, a few Rangers actually there as well. It’s six, seven days a week getting in the gym and whether it’s strength training, or flexibility training, or energy systems it’s trying to get your body back to the point where you need it to be come training camp.

PK: There’s been some word about maybe changes coming to the team. Is that something you guys think about or is that in the background?

CK: I think the old adage, the old cliché in our profession is “you can control what you can control”. That’s not something we can control, that’s management’s job. They’ll make their decisions and we’ll go from there and we’ll try to get better and try to get closer as a group, whatever group that may be come fall.

PK: You’re known for kind of a unique style or play. What’s your mindset when you’re out on the ice? Do you have a specific style of game you try to play or do you just go out there and do your thing?

CK: I think what everyone’s mindset is try to be hard to play against, be defensively responsible, try to funnel pucks to the net, try to get to the net. Being a bigger guy that’s where I want to be.

PK: Is there anything you want to try to improve about your game or do you just want to try and amp things up overall?

CK: I plan on getting faster this summer, plan on honing in my shot a little bit more, working on stuff around the net mainly. Like I said, that’s where I want to make my living.

PK: What’s the coolest thing about being a Ranger?

CK: I just think the organization treats us so well and the fan base is terrific. It’s a very passionate city, a very passionate sports city. A lot of history within the organization and they really care.
