Play me!

Play me!

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Apparently the Rangers got knocked out of the playoffs? You have to be joking, right? This is blasphemy and I refuse to believe it. Nope. Didn’t happen.

Jokes aside, as weird as this season has been –and it is certainly a polar opposite to what the last two seasons were– this was still a year of Rangers hockey. The Rangers fanbase sticks with their team no matter what happens in the season because of the memories that the team brought to us. Here are some of the best moments for each Ranger.

Dylan McIlrath

  1. First goal against the Oilers. It was awesome to see him get it and it really felt like he became part of the team at that point.
  2. Keeping up and absolutely shutting down Larkin in game 82. That play resonates with me and it makes me think about how he can continue to grow as a player.
  3. I am not exactly a huge fan of fights in hockey for no reason, to be frank I hate staged fights or when players decide to fight after a clean hit for no reason. That said, McIlrath against Philly was pretty damn cool

Brady Skjei

  1. His first point of his NHL career came in the playoffs and he really looked as if he belonged. Will be hard not to imagine him on the team next season
  2. His first NHL game. I think it is awesome when a prospect comes up for his first NHL game with a team. The fans are excited the players surely have a little fun with it too, its just overall a great time no matter the score of the game.
  3. It was just announced that Skjei will be joining team USA in the IIHF tournament, this is huge for his development and nice to see him getting some recognition too. Oh Skjei can you see.

Jayson Megna

  1. The hashtag #LiquidhotMegna is awesome.
  2. The debacle with people, as well as Alain Vigneault, thinking he is a top-six player and the savior of the powerplay. This is super hilarious if you look at it now.

Marek Hrivik

  1. Like Skjei his first NHL game was a good memory. Luckily I was there and got to witness the awesome OT win against the Wings where Kreider swooped the puck off the goal line gave it to Hayes who set up Klein for the GWG.
  2. His brief stint on the 4th line looked really good, he was good along the boards and was awarded with his first NHL point against the Devils which is always awesome. That was also a memorable game because of J.T. Miller’s #TAPEGATE.

Dan Paille

  1. Uh.
  2. Well.
  3. I guess being friends with Dan Girardi is cool. Staal’s are brothers, Hayes’ are brothers, Dan’s are friends.

Dan Boyle

  1. His shootout winner against Ottawa, his home town in his eventual last game there was surely pretty special for him.
  2. He was a roadie for Faith No More this summer. Pretty funny in my mind since all of the fans call him old man or grandpa.
  3. I know it wasn’t this season, but him punching Cal Clutterbuck square in the face. Euphoric.
  4. (From Dave) – My favorite is when he cursed out Larry Brooks, from today.

Marc Staal

  1. That time when he did a good thing.
  2. Staal keeping the puck off the line on Valteri Filpulla’s shot on December 30th reminded me of what he once was.
  3. When Staal and Ovechkin collided and it looked like he speared Ovi in the groin was an interesting memory of the series. Not because of the actual event but just to see the arguments on social media is always a fun time.

Viktor Stalberg

  1. Incredible offseason acquisition. His speed and big body presence was well welcomed here and did everything we needed of him. I’m a bit biased, so one of my favorite memories is when he was first signed and people were worried about why  a guy who played in the AHL last year was brought in. Admittedly I was as well, but that was the day PSAM was in it’s beta stage, so I tried to compare him to his cap tier and it looked like a great deal then. Happy it is now too.
  2. His goal against Buffalo was all sorts of weird, from the Hayes missed pass to the strange shot while falling. That doesn’t even say enough about the game which was weird as well. Should’ve used Skapski.
  3.  Stalberg’s deflection on Halak earlier in the year was a play that stuck with me because it was at this moment that I realized how awesome he was in helping the fourth line become somewhat effective.

Dominic Moore

  1. Any one of his random spin moves that always seem to surprise the defenseman. “wait isn’t he on the 4th line”
  2. Speaking of that time period where our first line was seen as awesome how about this absolutely sick goal by Dom against the Lightning in an awesome win in where the Rangers really reminded me of last years team. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrtmFS6-Cio
  3. He is an unsung leader on this team. Him inviting Etem to his ping pong tournament when he was just acquired is a really cool thing by him to do.

Tanner Glass

  1. THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON. Him getting the call up to play against the Islanders surprised everyone (no it didn’t), but as much as I did not want him on the 4th line he was absolutely buzzing that game.
  2. Scoring against the Islanders in that hectic end of the year game. I still don’t know what happened. Goaltending optional?
  3. The Alberta trip was terrible. It was a time where the Rangers should’ve came out with six points and didn’t fulfill that at all. However, in the game against Calgary when down early in the third, Glass began the comeback with this goal that ended with the Rangers stealing a point.

Santino Vasquez

  1. Has never allowed a goal in the NHL.
  2. He has an elite prospects page.
