Ok I made that nickname up, and it probably won’t stick. But Kevin Klein has a habit of scoring in big places for the Rangers, and last night was just another big overtime goal for the defenseman. Klein took a pass from Kevin Hayes in overtime and put it over Jimmy Howard’s glove for the big two points at home.

Howard almost stole this one for the Wings, stopping the first 29 shots he faced, many of them spectacular saves. But aside from Howard and a few odd officiating calls, the game itself wasn’t that eventful. Hayes had a goal disallowed after Howard made contact with Oscar Lindberg in the crease. That was about it. I guess that’s expected on a warm February night with a basketball game in the afternoon.

As always, you can view the full videos on our video page here. All GIFs are on nyrgifs.comfiltered under the date of the game. On to the goals:

Rangers 1, Wings 0

After Henrik Lundqvist made a save at one end, Kevin Hayes started a rush the other way with Kevin Klein. Hayes got the puck over to Klein, who put it top shelf over Howard for the winner.

Shot Attempts

sa

The Rangers fell asleep in the second period for a bit, but did a good job shutting the Wings down in the third while pressuring Howard.

Scoring Chances

scf

The Rangers may have fallen asleep in the second, but they still did a good job of limiting quality chances. While the shot attempts show the game had more flow to it, we can see from this one that very few of those shots were from scoring areas.

Individual Corsi

Kyle Quincey had a rough one. This game was a pile of hot garbage though. Not much to take from this one.

Shot Locations

The Rangers limited the Wings to the outside for the most part. Not much else to see here.

Shift Chart

shift

Marek Hrivik and Tanner Glass got one shift after the second period. Dominic Moore got two additional shifts, both on the penalty kill. Good to see that Alain Vigneault is starting to use his top-nine guys more when the game is close.

There wasn’t much else to this game. It wasn’t one of those exciting 1-0 games. It was very dull with some bad ice. But two points is two points. That’s two in a row now.
