The Rangers have agreed to terms with 2015 second round pick Ryan Gropp on an entry level deal. Gropp is in his age-19 season in the WHL and has a line of 18-14-32 in 32 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds. The 6’2″, 188 lb LW was the other prize in the Carl Hagelin deal, and has a rare combination of size, speed, and hands. He’s also a pure shooter, something the organization urgently needs.

Gropp wasn’t supposed to be available when the Rangers selected him at 41st overall, but it’s why they moved up in that Hagelin deal to grab him. His ELC doesn’t start until next season, when he will be 20 years old. He will be eligible for the NHL, AHL, or returned to the WHL that year.
