I’m still sick, so I wasn’t up to watch the game. Luckily Steph (@myregularface) made GIFs for some of the goals, so I can still link to those. The game looked to be a solid defensive effort, with the top-six forwards providing the scoring. This win makes it five in a row, and 13 of their last fourteen.
MSL’S Goal:
This looked to be a set face off play, with Derek Stepan winning it forwards, Chris Kreider tapping it back to Martin St. Louis in the slot, who one-timed it passed Antti Niemi.

San Jose’s Goal:
Tough to fault anyone when the puck was knocked out of the air at a bad angle. The save by Henrik Lundqvist initially was a good save, those are tough to control when they go off your arm.

Alain Vigneault tried to get Dan Girardi/Ryan McDonagh out against Joe Thornton/Patrick Marleau as much as possible, but the pair also saw time against Joe Pavelski/Logan Couture. Can’t really argue with either matchup there, both lines are dangerous. Also worth noting that the rookies (J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast, Kevin Hayes) saw the bench with a one-goal lead and five minutes to play. Tough to fault the coach there, even if Fast is one of the better defensive players.
The Rangers now come back East to a showdown with the Isles. That’s a big four point swing game. Sorry for the lack of a goal breakdown from last night’s game, but I’ve been battling whatever it is I have for the past week.
