Per Puck Daddy, citing a translated article from Hockej.cz, Donald Fehr (head of the NHLPA) let slip that the World Cup of Hockey will return in 2016, between September 15 and October 1. Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Russia, and the Czech Republic will take part in the tournament, along with two additional countries (Slovakia and Switzerland were mentioned by PD).

The World Cup of Hockey was inaugurated in 1996, with Team USA, captained by Brian Leetch and backstopped by Mike Richter, winning gold. Canada won gold in 2004, the second and last time the tournament was played.
