Rangers re-sign Ryan Bourque

August 8, 2014, by

The Rangers have agreed to terms with RFA forward Ryan Bourque. Bourque broke out last season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, notching his first 20-goal season as a pro (21-16-37). Previously a defensive forward, Bourque plays solid hockey in all three zones, and could be a dark horse to make the NHL club out of camp. Bob Crawford mentioned he made incredible strides offensively last season, to go along with his solid defensively play.

Great skater & PKer and I see him as a possible fourth liner. Better prospect than some think.

His size puts him in a bind tho. No? He’s not really big enough to play 4th line against other teams bigger players but he has yet to show enough offensive upside to even break top 9.

THE GOOD-Great bloodlines, good guy, fast, defensively responsible, has recently started to put up some offensive numbers.

THE BAD- 5-8, 170, multiple concussions, still working on hockey sense, Smaller version of 5-11 Hagelin

    • Puck Luck @Centerman21 says:

That’s been the only problem I’ve had with the Rangers drafting Phylosophy. They have drafted so many of these smallish forwards and passed up the bigger NHL sized kids. Buchnevich, Duclair, Thomas, among others. They need to add some size requirements to their draft choices.
Bourque is an energy guy and will likely be a career AHL player.
