The Rangers took Game One in relatively dominating fashion on Thursday night, and look for a 2-0 series lead this afternoon at The Garden. Steve Mason is still out for the Flyers, so Ray Emery will be in net. For a complete preview of this series, including the systems Craig Berube has the Flyers playing, check out this post by Suit. Justin wrote a post on Steve Mason’s goaltending style, but until he’s in net, it’ll be Emery, who showed why he’s the backup on Thursday.

The Rangers will be without Chris Kreider again tonight, but Jesper Fast has filled in nicely, finding chemistry with Carl Hagelin and Brad Richards on the Rangers second line. The Rangers will need to stay disciplined, as the Flyers will try to goad them into penalties and/or unnecessary fights. Stay calm and cool, and put shots on Emery, and they will head to Philly with a 2-0 series lead.

Let’s take this game and head to Philly up 2-0. If we can split the 2 in the city that booed Santa Clause. Then we can win this series in game 5 at the Garden

  2. Walt says:

As Al Davis once said, “Just win baby” !!!!!

Get Filthadelphia down 2 games, then they start holding the stick a little tighter, and become afraid to make mistakes. Emery in, go for the kill today!!!!!!!

  3. Gary says:

Do you see those lines and D pairs in Dave’s post above? That’s balance, even w/out Kreider.

If they get the averages of Hank’s performances over the last 5 years they are not only going to roll the Flyers, they are going to be in it to come out of the east.

Separately, I loved seeing the Jackets beat the Penguins last night. Love watching Dubie and Artie. Pit and Philly are my two least favorite teams.

    • Puck Luck @Centerman21 says:

I love watching them play in the playoffs. Pittsburgh seems to fall for the Flyers chippy after the whistle scrums. The Flyers beat us today because we took our foot off the gas. Played conservative on the PP and lost puck battles along the boards.

  4. Bloomer says:

2-2 Flyers score on the PP off a Lundqvist rebound which Rangers Dman fail to clear. Why is Fast in this game and not Cacillo or JT Miller? They Rangers need be more punitive on Phily’s defence as they will cough up the puck under pressure.

    • paulronty says:

JT Miller should be playing instead of Fast, no question. I love Henrik but he really needs to learn the Johhny Bower pokecheck, esp. on that 1st goal. Does this team lack that killer instinct like those before it? We shall see.

    • supermaz says:

      Talbot doesn’t leave those rebounds

  5. Rangers Fan in Boston says:

Well it’s never easy with the Rangers

    • Bloomer says:

The Rangers made it easy for Philly. Lots of time for the Flyers defence to make head man passes to their streaking forwards in the neutral zone. I am all for puck possession but how about keeping possession of the puck in the opposition end?

Too many players in the new York lineup who play a parameter game of hockey. Put Boyle (who I thought was the rangers best player today) with Br and hags and insert Carcillo on the 4th. line.

And what is with thsese diving penalties? What’s next head snap back like when AV coached Vancouver.

  6. Walt says:

I hate to say this but McD should have kicked the shit out of Giroux when he was chocking him at the end of the game, with about 3-4 minutes left. One good upper cut, an knock out the little bastard!! They will push, and push, and we have got to respond, or be run out town……..

    • Chris A says:

Sorry Walt, I don’t want to see the Rangers best player get into a meaningless scrap and shred up his damaged shoulder in the process.

We just saw Callahan tear his shoulder last year in a pointless fight with Max Talbot. It would be a shame if McD went down the same way.

      • Walt says:

Just one upper cut, the worm lets go of his throat, and he skates away. If McD does nothing, why not try some other garbage, and see how far they can push?????????? Your deal with crap in the first order.

  7. Puck Luck @Centerman21 says:

Tomorrow’s post (if Daves DVR worked) and we see a goal breakdown. We will see 3 soft goals allowed. Preventable goals. The 1st one by Voracek never should have happened. Not like that with a 2-0 lead. No reason there isn’t 2 D between Voracek and the goal.
The PP goal was a lucky bounce but still Atkinson was left unopposed in the slot for an easy goal against a sprawling Hank. The PK coverage has been better and on that play after a soft penalty called against Strahlman. They needed to kill off 3 more seconds. That goal can’t happen like that.
The 3rd goal for Philly was a bad rebound left out at the top of the crease. Brassard & Pouliot could not negate inside position by Luke Schenn. Another one the Rangers want back. Hank played well aside from a few bad rebounds but the team defense switched with Philly from games 1 to 2. Lazy! The Rangers played like they expected to put up another 3 in the 3rd period. I hope they Learn a lesson now that they’ve lost home ice. It’s time to take the Flyers serious until the series is won. This team won’t give up. They don’t play very pretty hockey but they bull rush their way to the net and keep coming. The Rangers played like they would no doubt open the game up.

  8. HARLEMBLUES says:

This 2014 Ranger team just may not be tough enough. This team takes too much doesn’t dish out enough punishment.I posted before that this team has to many nice guys.Puck possession doesn’t mean sh*t if you don’t score goals. The cup isn’t given away or won it’s taken. The team that takes the cup wins it.These Rangers must be tougher.
