Rangers recall J.T. Miller

The Rangers have recalled forward J.T. Miller from the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. Since the Pack did not make the playoffs, their season is over, and Miller can benefit from watching the games as a healthy scratch. Miller will sit with fellow “rookie” Ryan Haggerty and the other healthy scratches as part of the taxi squad for this year’s playoffs. Don’t expect Miller to get any ice time, unless the Rangers are overcome with injuries to their forwards.

I hate that they play this kid like a yo-yo, but maybe this is a real “open your eyes, act like a pro and give 110% all the time” teaching moment.

    • Do you think AV will trust Miller enough to use him in a playoff game. Or will he just practice with the team and be part of the “taxi squad”. The playoff adrenaline seems to bring the best out of some young players. Kreider in 11/12 is case & point. He ran on adrenaline in the playoffs but couldn’t find consistency in the following regular season. He was the yo yo. Who again played well in the series against Boston.
I’d like to see Miller at least for a game but if he messes up or don’t have it these games are too important. AV likes to roll all 4 so if he’s in the lineup he has to play or he’s dead weight and a detriment to the team for that game if he warms the bench. Again my apologies for the novel but I enjoy writing and feel it’s easier to articulate with more words than less. You’re are more concise than me as most BSB readers. I enjoy your point of view Sal and as well as many others. Even if I don’t agree. Everyone has an A-hole just the same as an opinion.

As I have said previously, not all 21 y/o’s have the complete mindset to work fulltime, and at 110%. I think if AV uses these moments to “chalk-talk” with Haggerty, Fast and JT, it is time well-spent. See how Hags works the corners, see that Brassard lead the rush and was the first forward back. Go to the tape and create 3 new forwards for 2015.

  2. AV did the same thing with Jordan Schroeder in Vancouver. He’s a kid that played US under 20 with Stepan & Kreider in 10′. He’s still up & down with Torts in command. When they fully get it. They stay. It took Kreider some time but he found a way to use his tools to help the team. Despite his shortcomings in the defensive end. Miller will figure that out eventually.
For the record I want to say something about Miller and I want all readers to hear my opinion. With what AV said and what I see of Miller on the ice. I think his problem is more off the ice. I don’t think he’s developed a professions work ethic yet. Because aside from his Defensive play. He could crack the lineup. I just think AV wants to see his attitude change and for him to become more dedicated in his preparation. That’s how I see it. The kid has NHL calibre skills. Just has to hone his craft a bit to beat NHL goalies more often. 1 more preseason and he may be ready.

If he is just going to sit, it is odd to call him up with two Hartford games remaining.
