One day after adding Chris McCarthy to an ATO for the remainder of the season, the Wolf Pack have signed defenseman Justin Baker to an ATO. Baker, a 6’2″, 190-lb defenseman out of St. Lawrence University of the ECAC, is coming off a year where he was tied for the team lead in points with a line of 9-24-33 in 38 games. Over his four year career, the undrafted free agent has put together a line of 19-63-82 in 143 games.

I look at this years draft class and wonder if it may be the right time for Sather to attempt to acquire a top 10 or even top 5 draft pick. Nick Ritchie is a 230lb power forward. Brother of Brett Ritchie of the Stars I believe. There’s a kid Tuch from the USNDTP as well that projects to go late 1 early 2nd round. Ritchie is the 7th ranked North American skater. He skates well for his size and scores goals. It may be a good time to draft a kid that can help the team right away. Like McKinnon in Denver. Having kids produce while on ELC is a good way to manage the salary cap and keep some youth around the roster. I think it’s a good time to make that kind of move in June. I think we still have our 1st in this draft.

It’s a conditional 1st this year if the team makes the conference finals.

If you want to get into the top-10 or top-5, you’re going to have to give up something you don’t want to give up.
