Rangers acquire defenseman Raphael Diaz from Vancouver

The Rangers upgraded on Justin Falk as their 7D as the deadline expired, nabbing Raphael Diaz from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2015 5th round pick. Diaz has a line of 1-11-12 in split time with Montreal and Vancouver this season, and would be a solid fill in on the bottom pair in case of injury. This is a depth move for the Rangers.

It should be noted that Diaz has better #fancystats than both John Moore and Kevin Klein.

Meaningless move; say goodbye to another draft choice for amother UFA at the end of the year. Maybe it doesn’t matter…they do not know how to draft anyway.

      Far from a meaningless move.

With Depth on D. The last 2 postseasons go very differently the last 2 years. More so last year when Hamerlik was forced into the top 6 due to injuries. Faulk can fill in as a 7 or 8 D but Diaz is an upgrade nonetheless. Did Sather retain Faulk or place him on waivers? Diaz also has a better shot that all 6 starting d for the Rangers. He should fit in seemlessly in the event of an injury. The Pens made a smart move bringing in Stempniak and the Caps made a solid addition in Penner. The Habs got Vanek and some needed scoring. They’re still too easy to play so Pitt & Bos are the class of the East. Yet the Caps & Flyers have made improvements. Columbus made an addition by subtraction in dealing Gaborik.

…remember the D corps playoff injuries last year?

How could I forget. That was a disaster. Let’s not brush off this acquisition as meaningless. Depth is very important.

I really like this move. There’s the tough guy we needed and depth, just hope he doesn’t take stupid penalties.

    • Dave says:

Diaz is far from a “tough guy.”

Wups! My mistake guys! I got confused with another player, thinking it was Raffi Torres. Sorry for the mistake. Well, I dont know much about this guy, but depth is depth.

Maybe their is a link for this somewhere, but does anyone have a list of Ranger picks for the coming years. Like what they still have and what have traded away?

  4. Ray says:

Since they ended up with one vacancy on the 50 man roster, I wish they would have given Dov Grumet-Morris a Ranger contract. Hopefully it doesn’t matter, but the Rangers are horrible at the #3 goalie position and he is at least a good AHL goalie.

Why not sign Joe Corvo for nothing?

Sather does not extend or trade Boyle or Stralman, so it looks like they walk without compensation at end of season.

Carmelo Anthony threatens to walk in his option year & Denver acquires half the Knicks team and a #1 from Dolan.

Carmelo Anthony threatens to walk from Knicks & exercise his option and Dolan ignores Anthony and goes off to play his banjo.

With the Rangers giving away all sorts of draft picks, including both #1s and #2s, Sather manages to make the Rangers older and older & bankrupt his farm system at the same time. With Sather trading two #1s & two #2s in two years AND TRADE FORMER #1 Del Zotto as well, Sather has clearly lost it. Diaz is here to replace Stralman or Klein?

By the way, the guy who discovered/scouted Diaz is the same guy who discovered Lundquist, Hagelin, Fasth with end of the NHL draft picks-none other than Christer Rockstrom, former Ranger scout. Rockstrom discovered Diaz when he was at Montreal as a European scout.
