2014 World Juniors kick off today

The 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship kicked off this morning, with Canada dominating Germany by a score of 7-2. The other game that is currently underway is Russia against Norway, with the Russians leading 10-0 in the second period (not on TV). USA faces off against the Czech Republic today at 11:30.

The Rangers have two players in the tournament this year: Brady Skjei (USA) and Pavel Buchnevick (Russia). Buchnevich currently has a pair of assists and 2 PIMs in the Russia game.

We will have full recaps of the Ranger prospect performances (at least of the games we can watch) as the tournament progresses. We will be using the 2014 WJC tag.

  1. In the pre-lims, Brady Skjei played well, and even scored a goal. Will be interesting to see this kid develop, from what I read, he skates very well, with plenty of speed!!

    • That’s what I’ve seen so far. Fluid skater, very rarely out of position. Not a throw the body type, but positionally sound and a puck mover.

  2. Watching the game, USA looks fast and dominate. Haven’t noticed Skjei yet. Barber on the other hand well looks good.

  3. Also it won’t be a 10-0 or 7-2 whipping. But the look really good against a good Czech team

    • This isn’t a team that’s going to light up the scoreboard. They are going to rely on defense and goaltending.
