Game 30: Putting space between the Rangers and the Devils

December is a big month for the Rangers. After losing a sloppy game at home against the Jets, the Rangers played better in their win in Buffalo. Now the Devils are in town to kick off nine straight home games for the Blueshirts. Beating Jersey is very important, as the Rangers are two points up on the Devils with a game in hand, but taking hold of this nine game home stretch and rattling off six or seven wins is more important. This is a team that is 5-6 at home, and that cannot continue. They need wins, and this is the best stretch for them to collect them.

The Devils employ a 1-2-2 forecheck which they’ll use aggressively in the offensive zone or passively in the neutral zone as a trap depending on game situation. In the defensive zone, Deboer employs a hybrid overload/zone defensive system depending on whether the puck is along the boards or at mid-ice.

On special teams, the Devils employ an umbrella/1-3-1 power playOn the penalty kill, the Devs rotate between a box and a diamond depending on puck location and the setup of the opposition.

Rangers Lineup:

Chris Kreider-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash
Mats Zuccarello-Brad Richards-Ryan Callahan

Henrik Lundqvist gets the start.

    Let’s start a run of about 9-12 games! We need to win tonight, and build from there. LGR!!!!!!!

  2. Jeff P says:

    About time for Pouliot to ride the pine for a bit.
    On the other hand, I think del Zotto is more useful than Falk.

    • Bloomer says:

      I agree Jeff MDZ is a more skilled and useful dman, but it appears the coach is rotating his defence in and out of the lineup to keep them all game ready and fresh.

        It seems DZ is in the sights but he is not a core guy. Need to spread the pain around among the core D men who have been a liability.

      I thought DZ was playing with much more confidence and since moving back to the Left side. Maybe not. Falk adds more size.
      If the hybrid icing is to stay the NHL should add a line from Faceoff dot to Faceoff dot.
      Never good when Boyle is in the box.

    Fat rebound from a fat, fat man

      *Boston

      That 1st Devil goal changed the entire game. What was the difference between that one and the play in Philly by JT Miller? That was the 3rd play of that kind the NYR were skewed on. Jannsen pushed the puck forward and it changed the game. The NHL doesn’t want to call the refs call on the ice wrong so what’s the point of the review. That play got me enraged. NYR controlled the majority of the chances to that point.

  4. Chris F says:

    Nasty game going on between Pittsburgh and Bostin tonight.

  5. Mr. Snrub says:

    How is that not a kick?

  6. Chris F says:

    -Sick shot by Zuccarello;
    -Strong return by Miller tonight;
    -A kick is a kick is a kick (NY 2 – Toronto 1);
    -Thorton and Neal are both scum.

  7. Bloomer says:

    Hank let out a juicy rebound on the kicked in goal as well as the dough boy on Zukies.

  8. joe719 says:

    This League is a joke! Always has been always will be! Even if you believe he didn’t intentionally kick it in(which the whole building saw he did), the ref comes out and says the puck was not kicked into the net. Show me where on the replay, that slug Janssens shoots it in with his stick.. Its just a fancier version of the WWF. This is what we can expect for the games at Yankee Stadium. Toronto should be ashamed of themselves!

  9. joe719 says:

    Dave Maloney believes the good goal call by Toronto was a case of them protecting the refs for a bad call. That’s what this League is. The good ‘ole boys covering each others sorry ass. This game has OT Devils victory written all over it. At least the brain trust in Toronto will be happy.

      You hit the damn nail on the head with your prediction. Sorry guys, but the game winner is one Hank wants back. It appeared that the Devils are a bigger team, and wore out the defense, with Staal out.

    • @Centerman21 says:

      You guys are right. The NHL doesn’t have the nuts to call the Refs wrong. That goal was a huge momentum swing and it changed the outcome of a hockey game. We could have been up 3-0 soon after but instead it’s 2-1 and the Devils got life.
      Why was JT Millers goal called NG? If that one and the Galchenyuk kicked in puck were goals. How come the Rangers keep getting screwed on these calls?

  10. Bloomer says:

    Good comeback but….Lundquist poops the bed.

  11. joe719 says:

    And there you go! I should buy a mega $’s ticket. Only, this team so much easier to predict.
