Rangers trade Brandon Mashinter to Chicago for Kyle Beach

In a bit of a surprising move, the Rangers have traded forward Brandon Mashinter to the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Kyle Beach. Mashinter. In ten total games with the Rangers over two seasons, Mashinter was held off the score sheet with ten PIMS. With Hartford this year, Mash had a line of 1-6-7 in 11 games with 15 PIMs.

Beach, currently with the Rockford Icedogs of the AHL, has a line of 4-0-4 in 7 games. Beach has no NHL experience.

This is a very minor move, as neither had much NHL experience. It is worth noting that Beach is a right handed shot. He will report to Hartford.

It’s also worth noting that he was the 11th overall pick in the 2008 draft and is a first class dirtbag on the ice.

Dirtbag? I mean, I’ve never watched any of his games, but his PIMs don’t necessarily mean he’s a dirtbag.

    • Seahorse says:

I thought the people commenting on this site wanted the team to be tougher

      • Dave says:

This is an AHL move, not an NHL move.

        • Seahorse says:

I know. Ideally he’d make his eay eventually. I just love how commenters say we want a tougher team then we get upset when we get a tough guy

          • JCA says:

He has a bit of a reputation. I don’t know if that has anything to do with him never being called up to the Hawks or if he just can’t play at the NHL level.

I’m not upset about the trade. He may be a dirtbag but now he’s our dirtbag. I’d be thrilled if he cracked the fourth line. The odds are against it but he could be that Lucic-type player that every team wants. Power forwards can take a while to develop, so there’s no reason to think he can’t live up to that potential that got him drafted 11th overall.

            • Seahorse says:

Haha hes our dirtbag. i agree itd be great if he cracks the team but its surprising that hes not bigger, kreider has 30 pounds on him.

          • Walt says:

Put him on the Rangers today, we love dirt bags!!!!

The exclamation points are for Seahorse’s benefit, I know we both enjoy them. Just kidding man!!!!!

A little background on the kid. High hopes, but his tenure with CHI soured over the years:

Beach fought his teammate (twice) in Chicago’s 2010 prospects camp and put Olimb out of action for 4 months with a shoulder injury.

  4. Dave says:

Sounds like a solid locker room guy.

    • Chris F says:

Yes, potential-wise, he seems an improvement over Mashinter (who I liked), but not sure that his character and reputation are something to be encouraged by.

  5. Bloomer says:

Beach has more upside then Mash, he is a local kid here who does have talent. Should he can keep his head on straight he could very well make it in the NHL. I think he is worth a shot, as the ship has sailed for Mashinter.

  6. Ren says:

This trade is low-risk high-reward. I like it. While the chances for Beach to make it the NHL are slim, if he could find maturity and form along side Kristo, another prospect shipped for questionable character, his upside is drastically higher then Mashinter’s.
The Wolf Pack as a lot more minutes to give Beach then the Blackhawks affiliate did.
Maybe Beach and McIlrath become good friends and suddenly no one wants to play against the Wolf Pack.

Mashinter will play for Quennenville.Mark my word Q will straighten him out he maybe the man to fill in the traded Byliguin who was with the Hawks when Tallon was GM
