After Thursday night’s loss in Phoenix, the Rangers have had three full days off before tonight’s contest in Los Angeles. The best news is that captain Ryan Callahan is back, with J.T. Miller being sent to Hartford to make room. Arron Asham will also make his debut tonight, as Jesper Fast will sit. This is because Darryl Sutter’s Kings are one of the bigger teams in the league, and one of the toughest to play against.
On the ice, Sutter is the exact opposite of Dave Tippett in Phoenix. The Kings run an aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck, and they aren’t anything out of they ordinary when it comes to defensive zone schemes (overload/low zone collapse), powerplay strategies (umbrella), or penalty kill formations (hybrid, depends on puck location/situation). Unlike Phoenix, this is a team that will not give the Rangers room to maneuver and break out.
Rangers lineup:
Brad Richards–Derek Stepan–Rick Nash
Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard-Mats Zuccarello
Taylor Pyatt–Brian Boyle–Ryan Callahan
Arron Asham-Dominic Moore-Derek Dorsett
Ryan McDonagh–Dan Girardi
Marc Staal–Michael Del Zotto
John Moore-Anton Stralman
Henrik Lundqvist gets the start.
PP1: Staal-Richards-Callahan-Stepan-Nash
PP2: Del Zotto-Girardi-Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
