Nash, Staal invited to Canada Olympic camp, but not Girardi

Rick Nash and Marc Staal were 2 of 47 invited to Canadian Olympic camp, as Canada looks to form their team from this group. Nash was on the 2006 and 2010 rosters, but Staal was left off the 2010 roster after receiving an invite. Dan Girardi was notably absent from the list, but there are a lot of big names there.

Unbelievable that a guy such as Marc Methot is there ahead of Girardi.

Girardi is a gigantic snub. Karl Alzner, Travis Hamonic (although I can live with it), and Staal are all less deserving.

Pure politics. Especially Staal being included. There is no shot he should be there, he hasn’t played at a high level in arguably 2 years.

Once an undrafted free agent, always an undrafted free agent. Terrible.

A healthy Staal is better than Girardi.

Is this an indication that Staals eye injury is getting better? He said at the end of the season it would never be back to 100% and there hasn’t been any updates on him since. Hopefully this a good sign for his health

Staal isn’t healthy & hasn’t been healthy. And what has shown that he’s so obviously better then Girardi when healthy?

Staal can not only shut down D, he has an offensive touch as well. He was awesome this year before the puck incident

Staal is bigger, has a longer reach, and is a better skater. He’s also 3 years younger. He has a higher ceiling. He basically lost the last two years to freak injuries. He had one concussion and then tried to play through it. There is no indication that he is injury prone. The puck to the eye is even more of a freak accident. If anything you can only call him unlucky. Before he got the concussion he was easily a top ten shutdown defenseman in th NHL.

With all that said, Girardi is still a helluva player. Both players are all stars but Staal is the better player. Also I think Staal at 26(he was pretty much robbed of the last two seasons) still hasn’t reached his potential. I think Girardi has plateaued, which is definitely not a bad thing.

Figures as MSG had the game on tonight on “summer Ice” where Danny G scores in OT against the Icelanders with 1:49 left.
I’m totally baffled that he got snubbed…again. Maybe he should become a US citizen and play ala Brett Hull style…

What is with these posts? I’ve seen a dozen of them all similar in their message. If this were posted on some tactical breakdown, or perhaps a metrics post I’d not really question it. But to be posted on a quick blurb post tantamount to an announcement that could be found at any number of sources, it’s just too over the top. Given that I’ve seen so many similar, what is the point of these?

Those of you who think Girardi is better than Staal ….do you even watch the games?
