Breaking: Brad Richards a healthy scratch tonight

Per Andrew Gross, Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch tonight. Richards was on the ice with the extra skaters following today’s optional skate. For those saying players are never held accountable, here’s your proof that they ARE held accountable.

Yea but it took a little long for him to be held accountable, no?

IT IS ABOUT TIME.TOO BAD IT IS TOO LATE.

  3. Dave says:

This pretty much seals it. He’s done in NY after this year.

To the surprise of very few…

And again, too bad, this team could have been so much better had he performed like himself. The decline was/is astoundingly quick….

On the other hand, wooohooo cap space!

    He’s gone.

Richie, do you even lift bro? You got weak chicken arms.

Or maybe this is because certain players just can’t succeed within certain systems or that some players cannot take the coach’s tactics. Richards has alot of blame, but do not dismiss the lockeroom, which may show a whole different set of cause and effect.

    • Rangers Fan in Boston says:

You mean the same coach with the same system and tactics that he won a Stanley Cup with? C’mon, this is on Brad Richards.

    • Spozo says:

Dude Richards turned down more money to come play for Torts. He won a Stanley cup under the guy and a conn smythe. Let me say that first one again. He turned down more money to play for Tortorella. How does he not react well to Tortorellas coaching then?

I really can’t stand this blind hate for Tortorella in all situations. And why do we always have to blame someone anyway? Why can’t we just sum it up as “player x is having a crap year”. Wait there is a shocking viewpoint. ACCOUNTABILITY of the professional player making millions of dollars. Gaborik and Richards both had pretty good years last year under the same exact coach yet this years when they played like utter crap it becomes that coaches fault. Both of these guys were given every conceivable chance to succeed this year and did not. But I guess the argument against that is that the coach isn’t properly motivating the players. Maybe tonight he should show an hour long Rocky montage which ends with Mel Gibsons Braveheart speech. Maybe that will light a fire under this teams ass since ya know playing in the Semifinals finals in front of the home crowd isn’t enough.

      • Spozo says:

And before someone counters my argument about this please keep in mind that this rant is only about brad Richards (feel free to throw gabby in there since I feel the same ). So don’t bring in the pp or line matching or any other aspect of this series. I’m only talking about BR.

  6. Bayman says:

End of the line for Bramnesty.

  7. joe719 says:

‘See Glen, I’ll even bench my boy Brad; never mind that it comes after we’re down 3-0 in games.’ No need to fire me!!’ While Kreider looks like he’s benched in favor of that noted all-star, Kris Newberry. Really stellar coaching moves by our fearless leader. Kinda pathetic IMO.

  8. The Suit says:

Richards, Asham, and Stralman out for Newbury, Mash, and Hammer. Houston we have a depth problem.

    • Pete says:

Clowe and Staal have been sorely missed but yeah, season is over regardless. Actually looking forward to next year and these guys building some more chemistry together.

Brass has been great, so has Moore and even Dorsett, with a couple of tweaks no reason to not be excited about next year.

  9. Walt says:

Hate to say this, but I made a comparison with Richards to the 1963 vs 1964 NY Giants, where the entire team got old over the off season, about a month ago. People laughed, but the man’s heart is in the right place, sorry he is washed up. Torts did the right thing here, before Richards made a complete fool of himself on the ice!!

    • Blueshirt In Paris says:

Is it? Chatter about him not sticking up for Zucc last game.

Maybe his heart isn’t in it anymore or his physical decline has mentally eaten him hollow?

If so the team might be looking to Torts to make the change and stand behind his ‘you produce, you play’ motto. Could not have been easy for him to call BR this morning.

      • Pete says:

Richards didnt exactly make it hard either to sit him so yeah, couldnt have been too long/difficult of a conversation.
