Asham stays on ice following optional, Clowe leaves early

May 6, 2013, by

Per Dan Rosen, Ryane Clowe left the optional skate early this morning, while Arron Asham stayed on the ice a bit longer. This generally suggests that Asham will be a scratch, and Clowe will make his return to the lineup. Rosen also noted that Marc Staal is physically ready (reading between the lines of his tweet), but it’s more of a mental thing with Staal. He has to be able to play without feeling like his decision-making will burden the team.

Naturally, Torts isn’t revealing any of his lineup decisions until the warmups, so don’t expect any updates until just before puck drop.

How about we give JT Miller and Krieder a shot and sit Boyle and another 3rd/4th liner. Am I the only person who thinks we need some offense? Islanders scored 2 goals in first 5 minutes. We only scored 2 in 130 minutes.

    • Dave says:

You need Boyle for the PK.

      • SalMerc says:

We need someone who can put the puck in the net. Asham, Pyatt, Powe – These guys allow the Caps to concentrate only on Nash, Cally and Stepan. Any away game allows the home team to get their match-ups. We make it easy when our 3rd/4th liners are put on the ice. Caps can put any defenseive pair out there and forwards from their minor league team. Game 3 will give us our matchups. That should help, but offense has been a problem for this team throughout the Torts campaign.

    • SalMerc says:

      Sorry 3 goals.

  2. Seahorse says:

ashams been playing really well. hes been getting great opportunites on that fourth line

    • Dave says:

I think it’s a numbers game at this point. Dorsett returning made Asham a spare part unfortunately. I like Asham.

  3. Justin says:

    I’d lose Powe.

  4. SalMerc says:

Lets just say that NYR go down in 5 games. Does Torts come back?

  5. The Suit says:

Agree with Justin. Powe should be scratched. Appreciate his defensive prowess, but we need offense and he has ZERO goals and ZERO assists in 44 games. Time to move on. Give Kreider a shot.

  6. Walt says:

You mean we agree on something, great Suit!!!

    Just busting with you.

  7. Walt says:

    Darn double post.
