Rangers recall Micheal Haley

March 5, 2013, by

Update: Per Pat Leonard, Richards is almost certainly not playing tonight.

Original Post: The Rangers have recalled forward Micheal Haley for tonight’s game against the Flyers. This is for one of two reasons: 1) Brad Richards cannot go tonight, or 2) Haley will replace Stu Bickel in the lineup to provide better skating without losing that edge.

In 56 games in the AHL with Connecticut this year, Haley has a line of 9-12-21 with 158 PIMs.

Last report ha Richards skating this morning.

    • VinceR says:

But he left practice fairly quickly. Shortly after was the Haley call up. Maybe Haley is meant for Bickel, may be a game time decision on Richards, may be that they already know Richards can’t go…we shall see.

Doesn’t Haley have a one-way contract? If so, he’s with the team for the rest of the year.

    • Chris F says:

Also, Haley plays with some grit and can hold his own in a scrap. That we’re playing the Flyers tonight is no small coincidence.

    • Ray says:

With re-entry waivers gone, one way contracts don’t mean anything anymore. Except the player makes a lot more money when he is in the AHL.

    • Dave says:

One and two way contracts have absolutely nothing to do with waivers. It’s about experience and games played.

      • Chris F says:

Ok, so one-way contracts are still structured such that once a player is recalled from the AHL, he cannot be sent back down?

        • Dave says:

I don’t get the question. There’s nothing preventing anyone from being sent down. Waivers is there for a reason.

        • Chris F says:

Or is it that he still retains NHL salary if sent back to the AHL?
