Nash moved to IR retroactively, makes room for Thomas

In more of a housekeeping move than anything else, the Rangers have placed Rick Nash on injured reserve retroactive to last Saturday.  This frees up a roster spot for the newly called-up Christian Thomas.  Nash will be eligible to come off IR tomorrow.  Nothing to read into this, just a paperwork move.

  1. I just don’t get why we called Thomas up. Hell be playing on the 4th line and it just doesn’t make sense. He’s so small he’s really a top 6 or bust kinda guy. Do you think they deploy him on the 4th line and give him some power play time? If that’s the case, I guess you can justify the call up. Otherwise, it just doesn’t make sense to me.

    • They won’t have him playing fourth line minutes. If they wanted a fourth liner, then Segal would have been called up.

  2. Asham out, Nash out, Powe out, Biron in net, DZ and Staal possibly out (reports say DZ is limping while walking, not a strong possibility that he plays…Staal has the flu).

If Staal and DZ can’t play we are looking at
    McD-G
    Gilroy-Stralman
    Bickel-Eminger

    To sum up:
-Bickel and Eminger anchoring the 3rd d line
-2 of our top 4 dmen out (possibly)
-two of our 4th liners out, including our best grinder (Powe)
    -top forward out
    -backup goal tender in
-3 rookies playing, one with playoff experience, 2 have played their first NHL game less than a month ago, one hasn’t played a single NHL game
-1 player who has about 15 NHL games, but played a majority of those in ’10-’11

Man if we can pull out a point, I’d be pretty damn happy. Would certainly be a character win and could be a marker in the season. Or we could lose badly and hope we get well soon, but the former would be nice!
