Around the Farm: Seven Whale notch points in win over Manchester

February 18, 2013, by

The Connecticut Whale continued their nice run of late with a 3-2 victory over Manchester –Jordan Weal is the prospect of note for the Monarchs, who was taken by the Kings with the third round pick used in the Brian Boyle trade– where seven different Whale notched points. Goals were scored by Christian Thomas, Brandon Mashinter, and Steve Eminger, while Blake Parlett, Michael Haley, Sean Collins, and Brandon Segal (2) all notched assists. The Whale trailed 2-1 late in the third when Segal set up the tying goal (Eminger) and the winning goal (Mashinter) just 16 seconds apart with under three minutes to go.

First, I hope Powe has a full recovery. He has lots of heart and I think he has played an important part in the teams success. He is a grinder, which is why I think Mashinter should get the nod over Kreider as least until we can see what he can do. Kreider is still developing, he has NHL size, speed and skills and the potential to become a very good NHL player. Fans need to be patient with him and I think some of the criticism is a bit over the top. I rather see Kreider on a high octane line then with a bunch of grinders getting his teeth knock in.
