Rangers, Del Zotto agree to terms (Updated with terms of deal)

Update 10:55am: Larry Brooks is reporting that the deal is worth $2.55 million annually.

Update 10:30am: Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the deal is two years. No monetary details have been released.

Original Post: Per Bob McKenzie, the Rangers have agreed to terms with RFA defenseman Michael Del Zotto. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Del Zotto will be in camp today. MDZ was priority number one for the Rangers in their “preseason” agenda.

We will post more updates as they become available.

Back in June, we were the first site to really sit down and figure out what MDZ’s contract might be. Check it out here.

how much cap space do the rangers have with the MDZ signing . Now you have Gilroy Bichel eminger for the 6th spot and one for up stairs Don’t like idea of rotating D Men need to stick to 6 and i think Bichel has the edge with his toughness

      Don’t know contract details yet.

Well there you have it, it’s a $2.55m per year deal. This year the Rangers have about $2m to give under the cap, including the Gilroy contract.

Look for a beak out year from him with all the scorers we have in front of him. And these will more then likely be the last years as a Ranger because we wont be able to afford him after that.

    • Dave says:

Last year was a big year for him. He outscored players like Keith, Johnson, Burns, Doughty, Hamhuis, Lidstrom, Subban, and Seabrook.

So the MDZ “holdout” (actually without a new CBA Sather was not allowed to negotiate) is over. I guess I won’t have to hear about how selfish he was and that he thinks he walks on water. It’s funny how withing 12 hours of a new CBA being signed the MDZ contract is extended. So this really was a non issue!
