If there is one area that the Whale need help, it’s on defense. That was never more evident than on Saturday night, when the Whale were absolutely destroyed by Manchester, losing by a 9-2 score. The Monarchs, who are the AHL affiliate of the LA Kings, feasted on the weak defense and questionable goaltending throughout the contest, scoring those nine goals on 38 shots.

Connecticut did make an improvement in one aspect of their game: They only took one penalty the entire game.

The Whale did manage to turn around defensively the night after, limiting the Albany River Rats Devils to just one goal. However, the Whale’s offense couldn’t solve Keith Kinkaid on 30 shots and numerous quality scoring chances. In the end the Whale lost 1-0, and I’m willing to bet they would have preferred those two goals from Saturday to come on Sunday.

The Whale again played relatively disciplined hockey, taking only three minor penalties.

The two losses drop the Whale to third in their division with a record of 10-11-2-0.
