And the NHL lockout is official

At 12:01am EST this morning, the owners officially locked out the players for the second time in a decade, and the third time in less than 20 years under Gary Bettman’s regime. For all our posts on the CBA, please refer to our Business of Hockey category.

Now we wait…again. While yesterday was the day the old CBA expired, it wasn’t the “deadline” before games start getting cancelled. Training camps and the preseason will be cancelled next week, but there is still about a 10-15 day buffer before regular season games start getting cancelled.

For those following the UnfollowNHLSept15 movement, now is the time to unfollow the NHL and NHLPA accounts on Twitter. There have also been peaceful fan protests outside the NHL corporate offices in New York.

Shame on the NHL and the NHLPA for not meeting yesterday. Shame on the NHL and NHLPA for allowing another lockout to happen. And shame on the NHL and NHLPA for once again showing their apparent greed over money we all wish we would make.

Donald Fehr was part of five work stoppages at MLB, just saying…

Anyone who thought this was going any other way is, well, delusional. The majority of the owners and players will hardly be affected even if the lockout lasts an entire year, so why would there be any rush to resolve a situation that will dictate huge sums of money for the next 6-8 years?

    Shame on all involved!

Lets get this deal done once and for all, and for at least ten years. Enough is enough!!!!

I place blame on the NHL.

See th players have options. There is money overseas. All the way to the pacific rim.

Bettman has to go. Now he has had an effect in all the teams. The local economies and the possibility of not luring the talent back once the lockout is over.

Did Bettman really believe he could pull this off at the 11th hour? The owners are a greedy lot and should be tarred and feathered.

I would like to know who from the owner side is stopping the agreement from bein signed. It’s not all of them.
