Zuccarello out with fractured wrist

March 24, 2012, by

So much for the legend of Mats Zuccarello. During last night’s game, Zuccarello blocked a shot with his arm (generally not a smart thing to do), and did not return to the game. He was diagnosed with a fractured wrist, and will likely require surgery. The Rangers are saying he is out indefinitely, but the healing time for an injury like this is 6-8 weeks.

So long Hobbit. Welcome back Ruslan Fedotenko.

So now the rangers need to regroup and do the right thing.

    Lines MUST be

    Hags Richards Gabotik
    AA Stepan Cally
    Dubi Boyle Prust
    Feds Mitchell Rupp
(potentially flip flop Dubi and Feds especially late in a game)

AA is such a better player and shooter than Dubi that he really completes that line. Everyone on this site notes how Dubi plays better with Cally. So would anybody. AA is a finisher and will be much more effective than Dubi.

Also on the PP the first unit is Gabi Boyle hags with Richie and MDZ

I think Dubi needs to start seeing regular time in that second line with Cally. Having him in good form is going to be crucial come playoffs, especially with the loss of Mats.

Correct me if wrong, but AA has seen plenty of time on that line and (at least as far as his stat lines go) hasn’t exactly impressed. I see no reason why Dubi shouldn’t get a good long look with Cally and Step at this point in the season.

And with the “Perfect Storm” forming, will the good ship Kreider come to the rescue ???

    • Chris F says:

      Hell no!

Why do people keep assuming that Krieder could jump from the college level to the NHL playoffs?

Give it a rest, Krieder has no right to be brought into this mix. The savior of the Rangers’ current woes will not be a 20 year old with zero professional hockey experience.

      Veterans will right this ship.

I dont really get the tone of this post… when a guy, who has brought elements to the game that this team sorely needs, goes down with a fractured wrist after blocking a shot (which the fans usually praise our players for doing..), I would expect some sympathy for the guy. Not half sarcastic “so much for the legend of zucc” and “not a smart thing to do..” comments. He has worked his butt off in ct to get a shot, playoffs coming up and his contracts up so the timing couldnt be worse. The team just have to move on and its part of the game, but common…

poor mats just cant catch a break no pun intended i hope sather resigns him for next year because he does deserve another chance lets hope feds can give us some playoff magic like last year .
