Preview:  Another day, another game against the Flyers, of whom the Rangers have defeated twice this season.

But this isn’t just another day. This isn’t just another game against the Flyers. It’s the Winter Classic.

We’ve seen this matchup twice this season, so it’s tough to not know what the Flyers will bring: a balanced scoring attack, good defense despite injuries, decent goaltending (since it’s Bobrovsky and not Mr. OMG-The-Universe-Is-So-Big), and a tremendously physical onslaught. The Rangers have beaten the Flyers twice by playing solid defense, capitalizing on chances, and maintaining puck possession.

The biggest thing for the Rangers is getting that powerplay to function again, as it has been worse than terrible the past 10 or so games. The Flyers are a dangerous team, and the Rangers will need to put home some powerplay goals to beat them for a third time this season.

Crazy Thought: Brad Richards gets a powerplay goal.

I can’t believe I’m watching the Rangers play an outdoor game. This is awesome.

  2. Justin says:

Hank has played out of his mind so far…it’s almost surreal to see the Rangers playing outside. Imagine how much better it’ll be when it’s in Yankee Stadium…

  3. Dave says:

The ice is crap right now. This game looks like it’s in slow mo.

  4. Adam says:

Hank must be having a hard time picking up the the puck….he never leaves rebounds like this

  5. Dave says:

    Uh…Mike Rupp anyone?

  6. tmd39 says:

Holy crap, did the refs try to keep the Flyers in the game or what?

    • Pete says:

Yes, they did. Awful NHL, just awful.

    • Leatherneckinlv says:

Wow on the officiating, that was a disgrace the last 4 minutes of the game to include the non call on Timomnen..that when the game is at center stage with so many viewers. Just pathetic

    • JTC says:

Almost makes you wonder if the league brass instructed the refs to steer the game into OT if possible. Atrocious is too mild a word…

      • tmd39 says:

The call on Callahan still has me on boil.

        • Pete says:

He held the stick, that much was clear on the replay. But the other calls, pathetic.

          • tmd39 says:

He grabbed a stick that was around his throat. And, since he had an empty net breakaway, shouldn’t it have been a penalty shot at the very least?

            • Pete says:

Dont get me wrong, I didnt like the call either, and lets not even get in the McDonagh penalties, but on this kind of a stage to have officiating that bad, shame on the NHL. Complete joke.

    • Dave says:

      Sure looked like it.
