We had some technical difficulties with the blog last night, so we were unable to post a recap right after the game. Artem Anisimov was the star of last night’s game, even if he didn’t get the Broadway hat. Here are your truncated bullets:

  • Anisimov forced the turnover on the first goal, forced another turnover and got the puck to the net on the second goal, and made a simple little behind the back dump off the boards (perfectly to Derek Stepan) for the third goal. He made all three goals happen.
  • That said, Stepan and Marian Gaborik sure do have some chemistry. But Anisimov is the one doing all the dirty work. Let’s hope he doesn’t get left behind in the credit that the line deserves.
  • Henrik Lundqvist made some great saves last night, as per usual. It is without a doubt that the Rangers have one of the best goaltending duos in the league at the moment. That is helped when Lundqvist is the best goalie in the league.
  • No idea how Hank is that good playing that deep in the net. It’s mind boggling. Playing that deep leads to so many angles and open parts of the net, but his reflexes are just fantastic.
  • The majority of the game was played at even strength, which was a bit rare. The Rangers went 0-1 on their shortened powerplay, but killed off both of their penalties.
  • Blown coverage by Steve Eminger led to that second goal. The puck hopped over Jeff Woywitka’s stick (it happens), but Eminger left his man (Foglino) to pursue the man with the puck along the boards (Da Costa). Foglino wasn’t going to score from where he was. The right play was to cut off the passing lane, and treat it line a 2-on-1.
  • The Sens played that 1-2-2 hybrid trap very well last night. The point of a trap is to capitalize on turnovers and trapped forwards, and it’s what the Sens did until halfway through the second when the Rangers caught on. There were a lot of odd man rushes given up because the Sens transition so well.
Five in a row has a nice ring to it, with two more winnable games coming up against the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders. Five in a row sounds nice, but seven in a row sounds better. Even if that’s greedy, three out of four points is a must.
