Rangers Recall Kris Newbury (Update: Frolov Done For Year)

January 9, 2011, by

As per Andrew Gross, the Rangers have recalled forward Kris Newbury from the CT Whale. Newbury has been called up to replace Alex Frolov, who injured his leg in the third of the Rangers win against St. Louis last night. Newbury is one of the the Whale’s leading scorers this season, with 35 points (5-30-35) in 41 games this season. As of now, there are no new details on the Frolov injury. We will keep you posted here.

Update 7:05pm: Alex Frolov has torn his ACL, and is done for the year. He will undergo season-ending surgery to repair his knee. Looks like Newbury will be up for a while.

Newbury? Cmon bring Grachev up. I guess he hasn’t gotten his shot yet.

  2. JT says:

That sucks. Frolov never quite lived up to expectations, but he was still a hard working winger, strong on the puck, who opponents had to respect. The Rangers can’t afford any more injuries, especially with Cally, EC and Vinny still on the sideline. Good thing the team had some depth. No lineup worries now. Never would have figured Newbury. Wonder if White will ever get another chance?

Probably no on White, someone might pick him up on re-entry for half the price. Him and Kennedy are going to be in CT all year.

I wish it was Gravchev too, but I figure that Torts is going to let Wiess and Newbury play all of 4 minutes combined with Drury filling in for a palyer who is not playing well or is in the doghouse… SO it be better for Gravchev to keep devolping down atthe Whale especially with all their better players up… Hopefully EG steps up and starts to shine with more ice time…
