It looks like Marc Staal is very close to finalizing a deal, and the hopes from both sides are that he will be signed before camp opens on Friday. As per Larry Brooks, the deal could be in excess of four years, with the Rangers looking to “buy out” some of Staal’s unrestricted free agency years. The more years the Rangers buy out, the higher the annual salary for Staal. I don’t think we are going to see a consistent salary per year in the contract, but a contract that may be more back-loaded in salary. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a $1 million or $2 million difference between the “bought out” RFA years and UFA years under the contract.

Also, add Jordan Parise to the camp tryout list. Jesse Spector has noted that the goalie, and older brother of Zach Parise, was not re-signed by the Devils and is in camp for a tryout. This tryout should help push Chad Johnson a little bit.
