As was rumored before, Bob McKenzie has confirmed that Ruslan Fedotenko will be invited to New York Rangers training camp on a tryout. The 31 year old left wing played 80 games with the Penguins last year, netting 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points, to go with a -17 and 50 PIMs.

With Fedotenko in camp, the Rangers will have 12 skaters vying for 9 C/LW spot, presuming the extra forward will be a center or left wing. However, I don’t understand why fans are going to Twitter and blasting this move. There is nothing wrong with some healthy competition, and it may light a fire under some of the more “comfortable” veterans. It’s not like Fedotenko signed a 10 year deal, it’s just a tryout. Relax people.
