The Devils are making moves to help solidify their roster for the playoffs, which will be a 3 team race between them, the B’s and the Caps, acquiring Niclas Havelid from Atlanta for youngster (sort of) Anssi Salmela. This gives the Devils a strong (+4 with the woeful Thrashers) veteran presence on the blueline for practically nothing.

Salmela, turning 25, played in the Finnish leagues prior to this season, where he had his 16 goals and 16 assists in 56 games. This year, he has played 17 games with the Devils, collecting 3 assists.

The Devils got a steal here. At this rate, Prucha and Redden might get Kovalchuk (kidding).
